August & September 2026 Pictomic Insider Newsletter: AI Automation, Windows PTP, Shutter Release, and Focus Rail Control
This August-September 2026 Pictomic Insider highlights rapid progress in the Visere Captura 6.1 beta, including MCP-enabled AI automation, PTP camera support on Windows, shutter-release workflows, and a free focus-stacking rail controller.
We are also preparing Visere Captura for Apple's transition away from Intel application support so Mac customers can continue using current operating systems and future releases.
AI-Assisted Automation with MCP and WebSockets
The Pictomic team continues to work hard on connecting the WebSocket API introduced in Visere Captura 6.0 with Anthropic Claude Code and OpenAI Codex through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
With MCP and the WebSocket API, users will be able to ask AI coding tools to build end-to-end Visere Captura workflow scripts as web applications, Python scripts, or in any language that can send JSON commands over WebSockets.
Development is moving quickly, and we continue to expand the available API features. The current Visere Captura 6.1 beta, which is the beta path toward version 7.0, is available for testing.
API features and interfaces are documented in the help for the Automation dialog. Open the dialog by clicking the Automate button in Visere Captura.
PTP Camera Support Comes to Windows
We are excited and proud to introduce PTP driver mode for Windows. Until now, Visere Captura offered PTP support only on macOS. Version 7.0, currently available as beta 6.1, adds PTP support on Windows.
This addition expands Visere Captura camera-control support to hundreds of additional cameras and places it at the forefront of flexible product-photography camera support.
Because PTP capabilities can vary by camera model and firmware, customers should review the supported-camera table and test their specific camera and required controls before relying on them in production.
Shutter Release and Directory Monitoring
Visere Captura 6.1 adds shutter-release support. When combined with directory monitoring, this provides a practical workflow for cameras that support a shutter-release connection but do not have SDK or PTP support in Visere Captura.
A Pictomic turntable or macro-rail controller can trigger the camera through its shutter-release connection. When the camera is configured to transfer captured images automatically to a local directory, Visere Captura can monitor that directory and import the new images into the application.
Please note that shutter-release control does not provide Visere Captura with access to the camera's live view or camera-setting controls. Its value is broad triggering and import support for otherwise unsupported cameras.
Free Focus-Stacking Rail Controller
Alongside our free Turntable Controller, we have added a free Focus-Stacking Rail Controller. The standalone Pictomic Motion Controller can operate compatible Pictomic turntables and the Automatic Focus Stacking Rail without registration or activation.
The rail controller can trigger any camera with a compatible shutter-release connection. Paired with Visere Captura's shutter-release and directory-monitoring support, it makes the Pictomic focus-stacking rail and Visere Captura useful across a much broader range of cameras and workflows.
Preparing Visere Captura for Apple Silicon
Some Mac users may have seen a warning that Visere Captura will no longer work with future versions of macOS after Apple discontinues Rosetta support for Intel-based applications. We are fully aware of this transition and are actively converting Visere Captura to a native Apple-silicon ARM build.
After version 7.0, we plan to release Visere Captura 8.0 as an ARM-native Mac application. That release is intended to remove the compatibility warning and keep Visere Captura aligned with future macOS versions.
Keeping your Visere Captura maintenance active ensures access to the latest eligible features, compatibility improvements, software updates, and technical support. For customers reactivating maintenance, we strongly recommend the five-year long-term Maintenance option for the best cost per year, fewer renewals, and headache-free updates and support.
Thank You
Thank you for being part of the Pictomic community and for helping us improve Visere Captura through your testing and feedback.
We look forward to delivering broader camera compatibility, more flexible automation, and practical AI-assisted workflows for product-photography teams of every size.
