Fix Sony USB tethering issues, configure PC Remote settings, and eliminate software conflicts to improve product photography workflows with Visere Captura.
Applies to: Sony cameras using USB tethering for product photography | Software: Visere Captura
Quick fix: Set your Sony camera to Manual (M), enable PC Remote (USB), disable auto-launch apps, turn Auto Power Off off, and ensure the Sony camera interface is selected in Visere Captura. These steps resolve most Sony tethering issues in Visere Captura.
1. Reset Camera Settings and Ensure Latest Versions
First, ensure your camera is supported by Visere Captura as described in Sony Camera Control in Visere Captura.
Second, if your Sony camera is not connecting properly, start by resetting it to default settings. This removes hidden configuration conflicts that can interfere with USB tethering.
Second, make sure you have the latest version of the firmware for your camera and you are using the latest version of Visere Captura.
2. Configure Sony Camera for Tethering
Manual Mode (M)
Use Manual mode to ensure consistent exposure control during tethered product photography.
Image Quality
- JPG (Large): faster capture and processing
- JPG+RAW: for workflows requiring RAW files
RAW images cannot be viewed or edited inside Visere Captura.
Disable Auto Power Off
Prevents interruptions and dropped USB connections during shooting sessions.
Focus Mode
Set lens to AF for software-controlled focus or MF for manual adjustments.
Enable PC Remote (Critical Step)
Camera Settings → PC Remote
- PC Remote → On
- Connection Method → USB
Most common issue: Sony cameras will not connect to tethering software unless PC Remote mode is enabled.
3. Disable Software Conflicts
Other applications can block Sony camera access and prevent Visere Captura from connecting.
Windows
- Set AutoPlay → “Ask” or “Do nothing”
- Install libusbK driver
- Restart system
macOS
- Open Image Capture
- Set camera to “No application”
- Restart system
If another application launches when the camera is connected, tethering may fail. Close all third-party applications, restart the system, and ensure no software is set to automatically control the camera at startup.
On macOS version 26.4, system security settings may also block camera access even when no other application is actively using the camera. In these cases, camera permissions must be explicitly enabled in macOS security settings. Once camera access is granted, the connection issue should be resolved and normal shooting can resume.
4. Fix macOS Preview Conflicts
Close Preview before capturing. It can block Sony tethering connections. If closing it does not resolve the issue, try opening it a second time and then use Force Quit to close it. We've seen cases where only Force Quit released the camera handle.
5. Check Antivirus & Permissions
Ensure your antivirus and access permissions allow Visere Captura to access USB devices and cameras.
6. Connect Sony Camera to Visere Captura
- Connect camera via USB
- Launch Visere Captura
- Confirm that the Sony interface is selected: Gearbox → Select camera interface

- Confirm camera detection
This setup enables reliable tethered shooting for product photography workflows.
7. Advanced Sony Tethering Fixes
Use PTP Drivers (macOS)
If your Sony camera is not supported by the official SDK, try PTP drivers as a workaround (example: Sony A7 III).
Improve Capture Speed
Close the camera control dialog during shooting to reduce UI overhead and improve capture speed.
8. Common Sony Camera Issues
- Camera not detected: PC Remote disabled
- Disconnecting: Auto Power Off enabled
- Mac capture failure: Preview/Image Capture conflict
- Slow performance: control dialog open
- Unsupported camera: try PTP drivers
Bottom line: Proper Sony camera setup, correct USB mode, and eliminating software conflicts are the key to stable tethered shooting in Visere Captura.
